Sudoku is a logic puzzle, not an arithmetic test. Place the numbers 1–9 so that each row, column, and outlined 3 × 3 box contains every number exactly once.

Start with what is already there
The printed numbers are the starting clues and cannot be changed. Tap an empty square, then choose a number from the pad. Before placing it, check the square’s row, column, and box. If that number already appears in any of those three places, it cannot go in the square you selected.
Try a simple deduction
Imagine a row already contains 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Its only missing number is 8. The remaining square must therefore be 8. This is a useful first move because it needs no guessing. You can make the same deduction in a nearly complete column or box.
Use notes, not a memory test
When several numbers are possible, turn on Pencil notes and record candidates in the selected square. Turn it off to enter your answer. Undo reverses your last entry or note change, and Erase clears the selected editable square. Recheck your candidates as the board changes. Sunday Anyday’s authored Sudoku puzzles have one solution.
Choose a comfortable challenge
The library offers Gentle, Steady, Stretch and Expert puzzles. Each choice is a separate board, and progress saves separately. Start with Gentle if you are learning the controls; the daily five-puzzle path uses a Steady board. You can check numbers or get a small free hint from Boosts. There are no timers or lost lives, so take as long as you like.
